By BobI am a very satisfied Giants fan right now, but they really know how to make a guy almost have a heart attack. I cannot remember the last time the Giants have had a blowout win to be honest. Every game nowadays they are always in a close win especially this season. I was very nervous going into this game, it was a pivotal moment of the season which would either put us in a hole or keep us in contention.
Simply put OBJ, Eli Manning, and our defense won us this game. Beckham had eight receptions for 222 yards and two touchdowns and showed everyone he can get it together and be a leader on this team. He was Eli's main target of the game besides a random Roger Lewis scoring a touchdown. When Odell scored his second touchdown with the Giants down three I was going crazyyyyy. Although it was certainly not all Odell this afternoon, the Giants defense proved why they were worth the money. Not only did they stop a fourth down touchdown but the were able to do something they haven't in awhile and that was be good. Besides for a slow start, this defense made plays all game and made not elite Joe Flacco not even throw for a TD. The only thing that pissed me off about this game was the BS pass interference that set up the Baltimore lead, because if you had eyes you could clearly see that it was a flag on the offense. All in all, I am hyped about this win and i think it was exactly what the Giants needed to turn around their season. See you next week Rams and better luck next time Baltimore, this one was for 2001. After this week,

By DjackNC State vs Clemson 3: Clemson is an 18 point favorite going into their matchup against NC State this week. We've all seen what Clemson is capable of this season, they've beaten everyone on their schedule, and 3 of their last 4 wins have been blowouts. Deshaun Watson continues to prove why he is the best quarterback in college football, it's going to be tough for any team to beat a team with a quarterback this talented and experienced. NC State made some noise last week though when they physically dominated Notre Dame, their offense didn't play great, but their defense was not letting Notre Dame doing anything. Now, with that being said, Clemson's offense is on a different level than Notre Dame's and for that reason I won't give NC State much of a chance in this one. The defense for NC State might help them stay in this game, but the offense will keep them from having any hopes of winning. Clemson will continue to roll, they'll cover the spread, and Deshaun Watson will continue to build his Heisman resume. Alabama 1 vs Tennessee 9: Alabama has to go on the road against a conference rival in one of the better games of the afternoon. Tennessee is coming off a heartbreaking loss against Texas A&M, it was a brutal war, most games that Tennessee has played this season have been brutal wars. That's the reason I think they'll be getting blown out by the Crimson Tide today. Alabama is coming off back to back to back blowout wins, meaning their players probably aren't all that physically tired. On the other hand, Tennessee has been in back to back to back wars in which they had to make comebacks in all of them. It's going to be nearly impossible for them to mount one of their miracle comebacks against this Bama defense. I know a lot of people are expecting a great game with this matchup, but I believe Bama is going to take care of business with relative ease today. Ole Miss 12 vs Arkansas 22: Another game with high expectations that I don't think will meet them. Ole Miss has a very explosive offense, we've all seen Chad Kelly light up Nick Saban's defense multiple times over the course of his career at Ole Miss. Arkansas's defense against ranked opponents this season has let up 38+ points in three games, they're not going to be able to win many games letting up that many points. Arkansas is also coming off a loss to Alabama where they were just physically manhandled. Ole Miss is coming off a bye week so this is the freshest they've been all season. Basically this is the perfect storm for an Ole Miss blowout over Arkansas. Arkansas falls off the map after today as they haven't been able to beat a real quality opponent this season, the win over TCU looks nice, but who has TCU beat, nobody. Arkansas is going to get exposed by a real football team today, and it's going to be real ugly. Ohio State 2 vs Wisconsin 8:
This game makes me very nervous, Wisconsin is at home, they're coming off a bye week, and Ohio State is coming off their worst game of the season. If you look at the score of last week's game for Ohio State against Indiana, you'd think the Buckeyes dominated. That was not the case as the offense struggled mightily, obviously they were still able to shit on Indiana because they're not a football school, but this should've been a 56-17 game, not a 35-17 game. Wisconsin seems like they have everything going for them going into this game, too bad the simple fact of the matter is, Ohio State is a way better football team. Wisconsin's quarterback is not going to be able to keep Wisconsin's offense afloat in this game. I know the Badger defense is great, but the Buckeye offense is better. J.T. Barrett is going to have a huge game as Ohio State shows the Big 10 that they're the predator and that the rest of the teams are just their prey. The Michigan game is coming up so we have to start with the mind games now. By DjackFor the first time this season the Broncos didn't make me look stupid, they've proved me wrong time and time again, but the last two games they have not looked good. The Broncos needed to get back to pounding the ball, they wouldn't, they would fail to run for over 100 yards for the fourth straight week as the running game is now becoming a big problem since they can't seem to get it going against the mediocre defenses of the league. The lack of a run game definitely has a correlation with these recent loses because it's putting more pressure on the QB to make more plays, and convert on longer downs, therefore making the job of a rookie quarterback that much harder. Trevor Siemian, the "franchise quarterback", proved to America last night why he won't ever be able to be a real franchise QB in this league. He average 4.6 yards per attempt last night, pretty disgusting, even for a dink and dunk quarterback. Chargers defense was flying to the ball making sure to keep everything in front of them because they knew Siemian wouldn't be able to throw it over the top on them. Chargers were sitting on the ball all night, as soon as it was thrown they'd run up, and either blast the receiver or go for the pass deflection. Either way they made Siemian's life a living hell, along with making the receivers fear for their lives. Chargers defense played a hell of a game forcing 2 turnovers, they were also finally able to not blow the game late in the fourth quarter which came as a surprise to all of us. Chargers offense beat down the Broncos defense since they were able to run the ball really effectively, this also allowed them to win the time of possession battle. Chargers held onto win 21-13, did Mike McCoy just save his job, probably, did Trevor Siemian finally show his true self, definitely. Good to see I wasn't completely delusional about the problems this Broncos team has.
By DjackAs much as I'd love to say this a huge blow to the Jets season, I can't, the Jets are 1-4, about to be 1-5, so this injury doesn't help their cause, but their season was already dead. Brandon Marshall is the one that should be really upset, he's going to lose a Porsche for sure now because of this. For those of you who don't know, before the season started Antonio Brown and Brandon Marshall made a wager for their cars based on who would have more receiving yards at the end of the season. Now that Decker is done for the year the Jets have no real threat to lineup on the other side of the field with him. That means double teams all day on Marshall because they will no longer have to focus on Decker who posses a huge threat. Some might say Marshall will benefit because he might get more targets, this might be true, but the coverage will also be a lot tighter so I can't see him benefiting whatsoever really. Regardless of the semantics of the situation, AB was winning this bet the second it was made, obviously no one's going to put up the numbers he is, stupid bet by Marshall, swallow your pride, and just shut up next time so you don't lose another Porsche. Then, when these athletes go broke they expect us to feel bad, don't be giving away Porsche's my dude! Anyway back to Decker, the Jets offense which has already stunk up the joint this season is going to be even worse now that they lost their second best offensive player. They'll miss his presence especially in the red zone as he's been their biggest asset in that part of the field. I don't know how you Jets fans will be even to watch these games now, you thought you were bad before, just wait till you see what the offense does now, thank god I'm not a Jet fan. A team that was picked to be a playoff team by many is slowly becoming the laughing stock of the league, isn't that what happens most years with this franchise though, I mean when an organization can't figure out the quarterback position for 40+ years, it's pretty easy to assume that they're clueless.
By DjackOf course the Broncos lose their first game of the season when Trevor Siemian is out with injury, don't be fooled though the Broncos just got outplayed by the Falcons, Siemian wouldn't have changed the outcome of that game. With that being said Siemian is definitley a better option than Paxton Lynch is right now, Lynch proved that he's not quite ready for the starting role as he had a lackluster performance against a very mediocre defense. Siemian gets to come back against a Chargers team that has struggled mightily defensively, despite their record this team has played every team on their schedule thus far very tough. If it weren't for this team choking away 4th quarter leads this game might actually have some true division winner implications. Unfortunately for the Chargers they did blow those leads and find themselves 1-4 on the season. Denver still needs to be careful to not let Phillip Rivers get this offense rolling because the last thing the Broncos need is for Siemian to have to play from behind. The Broncos need to get their running game going more than anything, Siemian has been able to pass effectively because the defense has had to respect the run. If the Broncos can't establish a running game like last week against the Falcons, Siemian is going to be in for a rough night. I have a feeling that this Siemian being a surprisingly good QB story is going to come to an end very soon. I'm not rooting against the guy, but I think people are being overly impulsive just because he's been able to be average at best. Look for him to get exposed as the season progresses, the Siemian hype will die down real quick if he lays an egg tonight against the Chargers. I'll let the Broncos fans have their fun because a sad reality is coming with this kid soon, you'll see.
By BobInjuries are always common in sports and the severity of them can effect the way a team plays throughout the season. It seems like this football season compared to recent ones, there has been a larger amount of players missing time due to injuries. As a fan, we hate to see our favorite players go down it just makes the game less fun to watch. The team must evaluate their other options, and far too often have to play people who are not remotely close to filling the void. Fortunately, week 6 of the NFL will feature the return of a few marquee players. Included on this listen are guys like Cam Newton, Rashad Jennings, Jeremy Hill, Johnathon Stewart to name a few. All these guys are crucial to how their teams perform and at the moment all them are needed more then ever. Newton and Stewart will have to revamp a disappointing 1-4 Panthers team who have not played even close to their potential. Rashad Jennings needs to get the lackluster Giants running game going even if the offensive line can barely do anything. As for Jeremy Hill, he is not needed as badly but the combo of him and Giovani Bernard equals a recipe for an elite running corps. Hopefully all these guys can stay healthy upon their returns, nothing worse then missing time doing the thing you love.
By DjackLast week I posted an article on why the 49ers should just start Colin Kaepernick at QB over Blaine Gabbert for the simple fact that he can't be any worse. Finally the 49ers have given up on Gabbert after being last in the league in yards per attempt through 5 weeks of football. Colin Kaepernick, who has been in the news all season long for issues unrelated to football, will finally get to just play football. Now, this will obviously start to draw more attention back to his protest, which I'm sure the NFL hates, but ratings will be through the roof as all Kaepernick haters will be tuning in to watch him fail, so the NFL can't be all that upset. As for all the haters, I think they might be in for a surprise, am I saying Kaepernick will once again be the electric quarterback that led his team to the Super Bowl, absolutely not, but I do think if anyone can salvage his career it'll be Chip Kelly. Kelly tends to get the most out of whatever quarterback is starting games for him, believe it or not the way Gabbert was playing was good for his standards, if you thought that was ugly you should've seen him in Jacksonville without Kelly, total disaster. 49ers offense will definitely see some improvement right off the bat, but don't expect everything to be running smoothly after a week of preparation. Kaepernick hasn't shown much in practice according to reports, he has been wildly inaccurate, and he is a little underweight, this is not due to a lack of work ethic, this is due to coming off multiple surgeries in the offseason. He should continue to get his accuracy back with reps and for the being underweight thing, I'm sure it's nothing a few steaks can't fix. This move was probably a move in which the 49ers coaching staff knows they haven't seen much from Kaepernick in practice, but a move that had to be made so they're hoping he's just not any worse than Gabbert from the get go. Hey, at least now they'll get to see if this guy has any value left in him or if he's just another cut to make at the end of the season.

10/11/2016 Panthers Loss on Monday Night Football to the Bucs Basically Kills Their Playoff HopesRead NowBy DjackIt's only five games into the season so it's unfair to rule any team's season dead besides the Cleveland Browns. When the defending NFC Champs falls to 1-4 though, the question of whether or not the team will even make the playoffs has to be up for discussion. Cam Newton didn't play last night so it's not like the team is awful and can't even beat the Buccaneers, they were missing their commander in chief, the reigning league MVP, so we can't count last nights game towards their overall performance this season. With losses to the Broncos, Falcons, and Vikings this team has lost to teams with a combined record of 13-2, so they've been losing to the best teams in football right now. The fact of the matter is you can make up all the excuses you want for this team being 1-4, the odds are not on their side mathematically for making the playoffs. Only 12 teams ever have made the playoffs after starting 1-4, so Carolina needs to get back on the winning track this week against the Saints. Now, the Panthers schedule the rest of the way is very easy, the best teams they play are the Seahawks and the Cardinals, besides that they play the teams in their division, and the Rams, Chiefs, Chargers, Raiders, and Redskins. They could most definitley finish the season at 10-6, a record that would most likely land them either a division crown or a wildcard berth. Despite their awful start, I believe this Carolina's team is too good to not make the playoffs, they have one of the best front 7's in football, and we all know what the offense is capable of. Johnathon Stewart has been a huge missing presence, this team is built off the run, and so far this season they've only had a rusher over 100 yards once. Most importantly, Cam needs to get back on the field, and back to last season's form. Without him this team will be lucky to win any games because that offense last night was worse than some college teams. Everything will start coming together for Carolina soon enough, they've had this perfect storm of bad misfortune to start the season, it'll eventually start turning around for them. If they can get their offensive weapons healthy, they'll be back to kicking everyone's ass in no time, but for now their season is in jeopardy.
By UppyThe Eagles dropped their first game of the season to the Detroit Lions 24-23. What's weird, for an Eagles fan, is that I'm not really that upset about it. It was kind of like "meh, you win some you lose some", which is a very new feeling for me. Usually, under past regimes, losses are followed by rage and yelling and calling for (insert head coach here) to be fired or for (insert backup QB here) to take over.
But the Eagles loss didn't infuriate me like usual. Carson Wentz looked fine, our skill players were making plays, the defense did their job. In the end it wasn't in the cards this week. The Lions came out ready to go. I definitely did not expect Theo Riddick, the pride of Immaculata High School in New Jersey (I watched him play against Holy Spirit High School in the state championship game at Rutgers in 2006. Shout out NJ sports) to ball out like he did. The Eagles D-line was getting caught up in good blocking schemes in the first half and the Lions jumped out to an early lead. Cue Carson Wentz. For the first time, he had to fight back and sling us into a ballgame. The rook did his job and got us back into a game where the Lions scored touchdowns on all three first half drives. Wentz gets the Birds back into it and takes the 23-21 lead in the fourth quarter. Then Ryan Matthews does what Ryan Matthews is known for. No not breaking his leg or getting concussed, but the other thing, fumbling. Matthews coughs the ball up and gives the Lions great field position to kick a field goal to take the lead with under 3 minutes to go. Wentz is now challenged to lead his first 4th quarter comeback and proved he isn't perfect. On the first play of the drive he takes a shot deep to Nelson Agohlor (who had a sneaky good game with some great catches) and Darius Slay (swag last name) makes a phenomenal play on the ball and makes the first interception of Wentz's career. And I think the pick is the reason we're not so mad that the Eagles caught their first L. Slay made such a great play on an unexpected risky throw by Wentz and it cost the Eagles the game. It was Carson's first real mistake but we'll take it because he showed some nuts in trying to just say "Fuck you Detroit I'm bouta win this game right now". Didn't work out. Oh well. The Wentz Wagon is still accepting new passengers. We're on to Washington to beat those racist R-words. |
