The college football weekend got off to a hot start with a Friday night game between PAC 12 rivals Stanford and Washington. Stanford is the #7 team in the country and Washington is #10 so this game had huge implications as to which team could make the playoffs. Washington under new head coach Chris Peterson has taken huge strides in just a couple of years, this program was no where near close to top ten worthy before he took over, just goes to show how much better a good head coach makes a college football team. Don't believe me, how has Boise state been doing since Petersen left, oh yeah they've been irrelevant ever since. Stanford is a big power house, they're competitive basically every year due to stability at the head coach position, going from a great head coach in Jim Harbaugh to another great head coach in David Shaw. They also have one of the most talented running backs in all of college football, Christian McCaffrey. He was robbed of a Heisman trophy last year after breaking Barry Sanders all purpose yard record, but he's back again this year, and looking to win that Heisman . What was supposed to be a brilliant battle between two behemoths, turned out to be a one sided slaughtering. Washington buried Stanford tonight, the game wasn't even competitive for over a minute of action, just a good ole fashion ass whooping. 44-6 was the final score, I love to see not so big name schools come out of nowhere and just kick ass, so I was definitley hyped to see Washington upset Stanford. Heisman hopeful Christian McCaffrey looked like a lost puppy on the field against this Washington defense. The Washington defense showed up in a huge way tonight, they allowed only 27 yard of total rushing, McCaffrey had 42 yards himself, but a couple of players had negative yards so that brought the total down. Either way the Heisman hopeful was ineffective in his biggest game of the season, that's really going to hurt his Heisman chances especially when he going up against Lamar Jackson who has proven he thrive's in big games. I give all the props to Washington though they just completely controlled this game, the defense played excellent, and the offense was firing on all cylinders. The offense rushed for over 200 yards as a team and Jake Browning threw for over 200 yards along with throwing 3 touchdowns. Washington had 6 total touchdowns on offense, they were 9/12 on third downs, they won the possession battle, and had 200 more yards of total offense than Stanford. They dominated every single facet of this game, they were clearly the more prepared team tonight. Stanford only had three drives that had over 5 plays, that was probably in part to them going 2/12 on third down. I'd be embarrassed if I were Stanford, there's no coming back from this loss, they cannot be a playoff team after a loss like this I don't care if they win out. I think this loss is going to derail Stanford's season and that they're going to struggle to find their legs after a loss like this. Washington on the other hand can certainly now be considered as one of the front runners for one of those four college football playoff spots.
