By DjackThe unthinkable, the unfathomable, the impossible has happened, the Houston Texans were able to trade away Brock Osweiler and his awful contract. The Texans made one of the worst free agent acquisitions last year when they prematurely signed Osweiler to a massive deal. Somehow, someway the Texans GM was able to wheel and deal, and get Brock Osweiler and his disgusting contract out of Texas. He was able to do all of this by only giving up a 2nd round draft pick in 2018. Genius, pure genius, guys like this are the real heroes of the NFL. Now, you're probably thinking to yourself why would any team trade for Brock Osweiler, and that's a very good point. Out of the 32 teams in the NFL only 1 is dumb enough to make this trade, the Cleveland Browns. Even in the offseason the Browns keep takings L's.
When you do the math and realize the Browns essentially paid $16 million for a 2018 2nd round draft pick, that seems like a little much. However, a 2nd round pick can turn out to be a very good player, may take some time, but that pick could be the player that helps change the narrative surrounding the Browns franchise. Knowing the Browns the pick will go to waste like every other draft pick they've ever had, however I'm trying to be somewhat optimistic about their future, they have to turn it around eventually right. Browns also have over $100 million in cap space, they aren't going to be able to spend all that money because no free agents wants to come to play for the Browns. So, they gave a nice chunk of this year's cap space to Osweiler since it's guaranteed and then they can cut him, and never pay him a dime again after this season. Initially, this trade looked a lot worse than it really was, when you look at it from the Browns got nothing to lose stand point it seemed like a pretty solid deal. Browns paid a lot for a 2nd round pick, but they had the cap space to waste might as well get a draft pick out of it. Win for both sides of this deal. Browns have also gotten offers for Brock Osweiler according to Adam Schefter's sources. Those "sources" are probably people from inside the Browns organization trying to raise the value of Osweiler, so the Browns could get some actual offers for him. If another team trades for Brock Osweiler and the Browns can somehow get another pick for him, or any value whatsoever for him the Browns GM is going to look like a genius. That likely won't happen, so I likely won't be calling a Cleveland Browns GM a genius any time soon.
