By DjackRevis gone, Mangold gone, Marshall gone, and more to be gone soon enough, I called this weeks ago in another blog(Read Here), and it was quite obvious they had to do it, and now the Jets may be really competitive in a few years. Today, it was announced that the Jets are willing to trade any of their draft picks and any of their players besides Leonard Williams. They're doing this to bring in a bigger load of draft picks for next year or even this year, more picks means more players, and the Jets need a boatload of players. Mike Maccagnan is doing nicely thus far in his first time at a complete rebuild, cutting old players with big contracts was step 1, acquiring more draft picks is step 2.
How else can they do that even if they don't move their 1st round pick, well there's a way the Jets can cleanse the locker room and acquire more picks all at the same time. Trading key players like Sheldon Richardson, Mo Wilkerson, and Calvin Pryor seems almost necessary at this point, however you can't get back 60 cents on the dollar. Jets need good returns for these guys, they come with baggage but a player like Sheldon Richardson can change an entire defense. Either, you trade these guys for a bunch of picks, or you commit to them, but for the love of God no more bullshit. You can't have Sheldon Richardson be in the headlines for anything other than football, Mo Wilkerson needs to step up and be a leader on that defense, and Calvin Pryor needs to live up to his contract. These are the type of players that can be the foundation of a great championship level defense, if Todd Bowles can't get them to act right and respect him while getting the most out of their ability he's the problem. Fire the head coach if that's the case because locker room drama, off the field bullshit being brought to the field, and players not practicing is all on the coach to take care of. Jets could have the best defensive line in football if they can get these guys working hard, Bowles can't seem to do that though. Jets have a ton of issues none bigger than who their quarterback of the future will be. Let Hackenberg and Petty battle it out for the job this year. If by the end of your 2-14 season you aren't happy with either you'll get Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen placed into your lap and your franchise will be changed forever.
