DjackMAC Championship Ohio vs Western Michigan 17:
Conference championship weekend was kicked off by the always entertaining MAC championship. This game always offers a classic matchup, usually featuring one team that is undefeated looking to play in a big bowl game for a chance to prove they're the real deal, versus whatever other team does good enough that year to make it to the game. Well, we certainly got the classic matchup this year, Western Michigan is undefeated, looking to play in a big bowl game against a power 5 conference team, and Ohio is the random team that was good enough in an impressive conference to get to the big game. This was a funny game because I expected WMU to decimate Ohio like they did to every other team in the country, that would not be the case though. WMU got out to a 6-0 lead after one quarter, both teams were plagued by three and outs, fumbles, and just poor offensive execution early on. Western Michigan finally got things going offensively on a drive that started at the very end of the fourth quarter. They'd march down the field methodically, 17 plays, 77 yards, and the end result was another three points as they were forced to settle for 3. Ohio answered with a touchdown, the first, and only time they'd get something going in the first half. Corey Davis of WMU, showed us why he'll be playing in the NFL next year as he took a 15 yard crossing route, and turned it into a 70 yard touchdown. He put the burners on these small school MAC players who he outran with ease on the way to his 51st touchdown of his collegiate career. Western Michigan ultimately ended up jumping out to a 23-7 lead at the end of the first half. Ohio tried mounting a little comeback, but the game was never really in question despite the score making it seem like it came down to the wire. Western Michigan goes 12-0, winning the MAC Championship 29-23 over Ohio. Ohio put a little fear into the hearts of WMU, at the end of the day they just weren't even close to being the better team, and I'm really fucking hyped to see WMU play a top 25, power 5 conference team. Should be an interesting game, usually is, just think how legendary those Boise State games used to be, let's all pray for one of those.
