By DjackBack to my winning ways after going 2-1 yesterday. I picked the Yankees who got a huge W, the Giants who did the same, and the Orioles who won but failed to cover the spread. My overall record is now 6-6 as I clawed my way back to .500 after a couple of rough days. Like I said earlier this week I wanted to put together a nice 2-1 streak to get my record in nice shape before really getting into the thick of the season. Today, I look to build that extending my streak to 2 days. Let's get after it. Bet #1 This is a battle between two teams that have massively underachieved this season. Blue Jays are in a lot worse shape than the Cardinals right now, they won the first game of the series, and are actually playing the second game right now as they have a day night double header today. It'll be the second game of a double header and the Cardinals will have the struggling Adam Wainwright taking the mound against extremely ineffective Casey Lawrence. I expect the Cardinals to win this game, Wainwright will finally figure it out and put together a decent start. The Jays might not play all their starters which will make it an easier lineup for him. Cardinals get back to .500 today winning both games of the double header. More importantly the win the second game, covering the 1.5 run spread, and at +125 you'll be sitting pretty. Bet #2 Give me the Yankees again, I couldn't love this team anymore, last night they held me down and tonight they're going to do the same. Yeah Chris Sale is a dominant pitcher, but so is Masahiro Tanaka. The Yankees shut down the Red Sox lineup yesterday with Luis Severino, I expect Tanaka to do the same. Chris Sale, has been untouchable this year for the Red Sox, I don't expect that to really change. If the Yankees can work counts, get a few hits, and maybe scratch out a couple runs that'll be a good day for this lineup against a pitcher of his caliber. The Yankees need to get into the Sox bullpen as early as possible for our best chance to win. Yankees are once again +1.5, I love the disrespect, and at -140 it's not a big risk whatsoever. Throw the fucking mortgage on the Yankees tonight, the Baby Bombers are taking over Boston. Bet #3
The Padres have Jered Weaver going up against Taijuan Walker for the D Backs. Walker proved to us last year that he can either nearly throw a no hitter or just get absolutely torched, so you never know what you're really getting with him. Weaver has shown in past years he can be a nice pitcher and has looked decent so far this season. If he's healthy he's shown he can be very effective, only thing is he can't stay healthy. For now he is, so I'm taking the Padres because I like Weaver and the Padres hot bats to carry over from last night. After stealing a victory last night in the 9th by scoring 5 runs the Padres are going to try to carry that momentum over for a series win tonight. They're a 1.5 run dog, so I'll take the Padres at -130. Even if they don't win I expect this one to be pretty close.

By DjackWent 1-2 on Monday, picked 2 of 3 winning teams, one of them just didn't cover the spread. That brings me to 4-5 on the year. That means it's time to get back to, or above, .500 today. I'm confident in today's selections, so I anticipate nothing less than greatness out of today's picks. On that note, let's get to it. Bet #1 Yankees-Red Sox is back tonight at 7pm, if you aren't watching you aren't a fan of baseball. If your team happens to be playing at the same time, that sucks for you. The Yankees have young stud Luis Severino taking the mound against the reigning AL Cy Young award winner, Rick Porcello. Red Sox are 1.5 run favorite at +180, with Rick Porcello pitching against basically a rookie at Fenway, only an idiot wouldn't take that. Exactly why I'll go with the Yankees tonight, sometimes sports betting doesn't need to make sense, sometimes you just gotta go with your gut. My gut tends to be pretty biased for the Yankees tonight, oh well, take the Yankees at -200. They haven't let me down yet. Bet #2 Orioles are returning to their winning ways tonight, the Rays gave them a tough time yesterday, and held the O's lineup down to 0 runs, exactly why I give them no shot today. Oriole's best pitcher Dylan Bundy takes the mound for them against some scrub on the Rays. Take the Orioles as the 1.5 run favorite at +155, it's like stealing candy from a baby I swear. Bet #3
The Giants have struggled to score all season, meanwhile the Dodgers just can't seem to string a win streak together. Both these teams have been plagued with slow starts out of the gate, so a series win tonight could mean a lot for either team. Giants have Johnny Cueto taking the mound against Alex Wood, definitely advantage Giants in the pitching matchup. As for the lineups we all know anyone is better than the Giants right now, advantage Dodgers. The reason I'll be taking the Giants as 1.5 run underdog is because I'll always take an underdog with the better starting pitcher. At -165 kind of a risk, but you gotta be in it to win it baby. By DjackHere we go again, after taking the weekend off my picks are back. Normally, I would be grinding with you guys on the weekend, but I was so disgusted with my 0-3 performance last Thursday that I needed a couple days to regroup. 3-0 in my first day, 0-3 to follow that up, hopefully I can start a nice 2-1 streak in the upcoming days. 3-3 start, not good, not bad, just average, now let's improve it with some winners. Bet #1 The Reds have been quite the early season surprise, I've doubted them long enough they seem to be the real deal, so now I'm going to try to cash in on their success. With their ace Amir Garrett taking the mound tonight against veteran Matt Garza for the Brewers, I expect an onslaught. The Reds bats have been hot lately and they just gave the defending World Series champions all they could handle. Garza is making first first start of the season, I expect him to rusty while Garrett is already in mid-season groove. Reds cover the -1.5 spread and with them at +135 this seems like a no brainer to me. Bet #2 I love the Angels at home tonight against the struggling Jays. With Donaldson and Tulo out the Blue Jays lineup just isn't all that scary, especially now that Bautista is awful. Angels send Ricky Nolasco an average pitcher to the mound against Blue Jays Francisco Lirano, another average pitcher, so whichever lineup shows up will win. Both bullpens are pretty weak, so expect a lot of runs. Angels split the series by winning this game comfortably, they'll cover the -1.5 run spread, and at +155 against an atrocious Blue Jays team I'll take that every time. Bet #3
One of the best rivalries in all of baseball is back tonight, Giants and Dodgers, so obviously action has to be put down on this game. I like Matt Cain and the Giants tonight. Cain has looked like he's returning to his peak form and the Giants offense is due for an outbreak. Against a pitcher like Hyun-Jin Ryu that's a very good possibility. I think the Giants win this, so having them as a 1.5 run dog makes me that much more confident in this pick. At -130 it's not a big risk either. By DjackIf you listened to me yesterday, congratulations on the free rent and all the other money I won you. For anyone that missed it, I went 3-0 yesterday, on my first action of the season, now that's wassup. Today, I plan on doing the same, I'm really feeling we can get this to 6-0 tonight with some of these matchups looking real nice tonight. Here we go: Bet #1 Seattle Mariners are the lock of the night. At -145 tonight against the A's it may look risky with the way they started this season off and that's exactly why I love. Why would they be such a big favorite if they're the team with the worse record. The Mariners have won 5 of 6 and are looking to rebound quickly from their slow start. With James Paxton, their young lefty stud on the mound tonight, he gives them a very good shot at winning. The A's lineup is basically all or nothing, they'll either put up 7+ runs or score less than 3, they aren't very consistent on a night to night basis. Since they're facing a good young pitcher, I expect their offense to have a slow night. Mariners should win soundly over the A's in this AL West matchup. Bet #2 Carlos Martinez and the Cardinals, don't want this win tonight, they need this win tonight, and that's why I'll take them over the Brewers. Since the Cardinals are off to such a slow start and have looked quite dreadful, Vegas is giving them no respect. Perfect time to catch cheap money lines like tonight at -119 when they're playing bad teams. I don't care how bad the Cardinals are playing or how good the Brewers are playing, there's no chance the Brewers beat the Cardinals when the Cardinals have their ace going. Martinez has gotten off to slow start due to his command, but his stuff is so filthy no one can hit once he gets it in the strike zone. If Martinez can stay out of his own way tonight he should have no problem mowing through this Milwaukee lineup. Zach Davies is taking the hill for the Brewers, his 8.79 ERA suggest that the Cardinals lineup should have a nice coming out party tonight after a slow start to the season. Cardinals win big. Bet #3
First underdog pick of the year, take the Cincinnati Reds at +105 against the Orioles. Votto, Duvall, and Cozart will be enough to carry this offense with the loss of Eugenio Suarez, the hottest bat in the lineup. Votto and Duvall have hit for power this year not a ton of contact, expect a change from Votto in that category starting tonight, and Duvall is only known for his power, so if he continues to do what he's doing he'll be alright. Wade Miley has gotten off to a nice start this season in his first two starts. Miley hasn't been notoriously good throughout his career and I don't think he's all of the sudden found the light, so expect a more Miley like start from him tonight. Scot Feldman, the man taking the mound for the Reds isn't anything to write home about either, although the Reds have the stronger bullpen to back him up. With Britton out for the Orioles it adds a ton of uncertainty to closing out games. If Miley can't go deep into this game I believe the Reds will be able to attack this weakened bullpen racking up late runs. With Drew Storen, Cody Reed, and Robert Stephenson proving to be one of the better back ends in baseball they should be able to keep the Orioles powerful lineup relatively quiet. Reds squeak out a win in this game on some late inning heroics. By DjackOkay, the gambling page has been dead, I've taken it upon myself to make the good readers of Highly Controversial Sports some money. Everyday, or most days, I'll release my daily baseball picks. I'll pick three games, you can either bet with me or against me, one way or another money will be made. I'll explain my reasoning for the pick and I'll keep track of the record of my bets, so I can prove I'm a worthy source. With that being said, let's get this shit rolling. Bet #1 Bet of the year tonight. Tell the wife, rent money is going down on the Yankees tonight, matter of fact don't tell her, this way you get free rent, and a bunch of side cash. Tanaka is on the mound for the Yankees, he got off to a rough start this season, but found his stuff in his third start. That means tonight he is poised for his best start of the year. If the White Sox lineup had trouble against Montgomery and Severino, Tanaka should be a nightmare for them. The White Sox pitcher is some young prospect in his second big league start. Look for our rested lineup to eat him alive at a hitters ballpark like Yankee stadium. Yankees are -1 and will win by at least 3, so easy easy money to be won on this game. Bet #2 Take the Houston Astros against the LA Angels. Dallas Kuechel is pitching and he has returned to Cy Young form. Against a mediocre at best Angels lineup , I'd say he continues his great start to the season tonight. Angels have J.C. Ramirez and his 7.20 ERA taking the mound tonight. With an Angels lineup that is locked and loaded look for this one to get out of hand early. Astros win big time and with the spread being -1, Astros are a no brainer tonight. Bet #3
Take the Dodgers against the Rockies in LA. The Rockies have gotten off to an unbelievable start and the Dodgers have done the complete opposite, but that all changes tonight. Anytime Clayton Kershaw pitches for the Dodgers, you should probably be banking on them to win. Especially when the Rockies are sending out their worst pitcher to the mound, Tyler Anderson. Dodgers need to save themselves before they fall too far behind in the NL West race. Dodgers are still favored despite the records and at -1 with the difference in pitching tonight the Dodgers are an easy pick for me. Listen to me and you'll go 3 for 3 tonight winning a nice chunk of coin for yourself. Thank me later. |
