3/27/2017 Cyborg Officially Vacates Invicta Featherweight Belt, Eyes UFC Featherweight Belt This SummerRead NowBy MukOn Saturday, Cris 'Cyborg' Justino announced that she has officially vacated her Featherweight Belt with Invicta, in hopes of getting her rightful title shot for the UFC's new Featherweight Belt.
The UFC's Female Featherweight Belt has only been in existence for a few months, as Germaine de Randamie defeated Holly Holm via a controversial unanimous decision in February at UFC 208. The controversy around the fight where she landed several punches after the 2nd and 3rd round bell sounded, and Holly's manager has even filed appeals and Holly herself has expressed her desire to fight only GDR, but it's tough to see how it'll play out. In reality, every female fighter in the UFC has no desire to fight Cyborg, and there's no doubt about that. Everyone says they want to fight her and have no problem doing it, until the phone rings and it's Dana White asking if you are ready for her, and then everyone's got an excuse. Germaine said she would have no problem fighting Cyborg if she won the belt (which in reality Cyborg should have been part of the original title fight, no way around it), and now she's holding out claiming she has an injury that will keep her sidelined for way too long to fight Cyborg this summer. I call bullshit. GDR is running scared and wants to keep her belt as long as she can, because the second Cyborg gets in the Octagon with her, she's done. I hope somehow the UFC can force GDR's hand, and get her to fight Cyborg as soon as possible, ideally this summer. Cyborg is the most dangerous female MMA fighter - ever. She can barely make weight at 145-pounds, which just goes to show how much of a bigger and stronger woman she is than every other fighter on the roster. You can run but you can't hide GDR... Cyborg is coming...
