by Nicky DCredit: zimbio.com A question that many baseball fans might have at the moment is "Who will win the American league Cy Young award?" The Cy Young award, considered predominantly a starting pitchers award could very well possibly go to a closing pitcher this year. Zach Britton is having a phenomenal season right now with the American league East leading Baltimore Orioles, posting up with an AL best 36 saves accompanying with a 0.55 ERA. Britton has appeared in 51 games this season and has only given up 3 earned runs, the last time he has given up a run was on April 30th. The only competition standing in the way of Britton winning the award is J.A. Happ, 16-3 with a 2.96 he Is also having a great season. Closing pitchers have indeed won the Cy Young award before , last one coming in 2003 won by Eric Gagne. Although it is a rare occurrence I do believe 2016 is the year in which a closing pitcher can once again bring home the Cy Young award.
