By DjackIt can never a be a Sunday filled with relaxation and happiness when your a Giants fan, this held true once again this past Sunday as we took on division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. Early in the game the Giants went up 14-0 after Carson Wentz threw interceptions on back to back drives, the Giants did an excellent job of capitalizing off the turnovers turning it into an early 14 point lead. Giants being able to score touchdowns in the red zone has been a problem for us all year, but yesterday the one time we were in the red zone Eli threw a little floater to the back of the endzone, and Odell hit his natural spring board to make the grab over the defender. Statistically the Giants offense did a fine job yesterday, but that's why the numbers sometimes lie. Giants may have been able to make the big touchdown plays as Eli threw 3 touchdown passes of 20+ yards, but the travesty that is our run game stops us from being able to put together methodical drives. Giants had one legitimately good drive yesterday, that was the 10 play 75 yard drive that they had right after Philadelphia had scored a touchdown to start the second half. Not only was it a great drive because it was 10 plays and took 5 minutes off the clock, but it came at a crucial part in the game where Philadelphia was only down by 4, gaining some serious momentum. Other than that the offense didn't put together any drives that impressed me, we had 15 drives yesterday, 2 of them went for more than 5 plays, we need to get better at moving the chains, and we still need to protect the ball better. Eli threw two interceptions in the 4th, granted neither of him were really his fault one was tipped, and the other was just a freak of nature play by the Eagles defensive back. Giants were up 28-23 with about 2 minutes to go after Eli's second interception, mind you if that pass got completed instead of intercepted the Giants would've won right then and there, but of course they weren't going to make it easy on us, they were going to make sure cardiac arrest was inevitable before this game was over. Now, the Eagles have the ball with plenty of time at our 34 yard line, only thing we have going for us is that they need a touchdown to take the lead, a field goal does nothing for them, funny part of that being is the Eagles head coach passed up on two oppurtunities to kick field goals by going for it on fourth down and failing, now it was really coming back to haunt him because if he took the points instead of trying to be a hero, Eagles would be the ones in the drivers seat at this stage of the game. Well, despite Doug Pederson's awful judgement and play calling for that matter because one of the fourth down attempts he ran one of the most absurd QB boot legs I've ever seen, it wouldn't have worked in a high school football game let alone a professional one. Anyways, I'm sitting on my couch shitting my pants as FOX shows all the times the Giants had previously blown big leads at the Meadowlands, and all I'm thinking is this is just going to be another date to add on that list. To my surprise, the Giants defense once again was able to close out the game for us, something they were unable to do at all last year, so anyone saying this defense wasn't worth the money you're bugging, we have at least 4 of our wins thanks to this defense. Wentz wasn't able to prove he has the clutch gene once again as he falls to defeat in the waning moments of the game in back to back weeks. I have to say though this Philly defense is really real, like that defensive front with Fletcher Cox, Conor Barwin, and Brandon Graham is scary good. I also thought the secondary wasn't going to be all that great in coverage which they weren't to be honest, but damn those guys in the secondary can make some huge plays. Eagles only real problem is they have literally no playmakers on offense, Darren Sproles is their best offensive weapon, and let's be honest he shouldn't be an every down back in this league, let alone your best weapon. Once Wentz can get some weapons I'll be very worried about Philly, until then they're below average on offense, and their defense will allow them to hang around in games. Giants on the other hand are in a great position, we have the Bengals, Bears, and Browns coming up if we can win 2 of those games, which if we don't is embarrassing, we'll improve to 7-4, I love our chances of making the playoffs at that point. I don't know how, but if the season ended today the Giants would be the first wild card spot, if we can continue to keep improving each week like we have been, I think we definitley give Dallas a run for the division title, and make some noise in the playoffs as well. Bleed Blue Baby.
