For the past 22 games Jets fans have come accustomed to seeing Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, this Sunday there will be a different number under center for the first time since 2014. Fitzpatrick has been one of the most consistent starting quarterbacks they've had over the past 15 years, that's not necessarily saying much, the Jets just haven't had many options. When your franchises best quarterbacks in the last 15 years are Chad Pennington, Mark Sanchez, and Ryan Fitzpatrick, that says a lot about your organization. Last season Ryan Fitzpatrick put up the best numbers of his career, which I believe is mostly in part to what he had around him, but still it was the best quarterback play we've seen out of a Jets QB in a long time. After the season Fitzpatrick and the Jets disputed over contracts all summer until they finally agreed upon a one year deal. This was probably the smartest managerial move the Jets have ever made because my god Ryan Fitzpatrick has been awful so far this season. Fitzpatrick has thrown 5 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in just 6 games this season, he threw 15 interceptions all of last season. After a 1-5 start to the season it was clearly time for Todd Bowles to make a change at the quarterback position, he did just that today when he announced that Geno Smith will be the starter for the Jets this week. Geno Smith huh, that's who Todd Bowles is going with to try to save his job, he's clearly desperate. Coach Bowles originally said Fitzpatrick would start next week at the postgame press conference, but after further review of the film he must've finally realized that Smith can't be any worse than Fitzpatrick. I respect the decision by Bowles, not that he had much of a choice, changing up personnel at the quarterback position might just give the team that little hope that maybe they can turn it around with this guy. Geno Smith's play might not back up that glimmer of hope the team might get from this change, but you never know, maybe Geno will light the place up come Sunday. He was originally supposed to be the starter over Fitzpatrick going into last season, so we will see if can reignite this Jet engine because the Jets are one loss away from a total crash.
