By DjackSettle down, settle down, Geno Smith will never be the starting quarterback for the New York Giants(Unless any major injuries sideline Eli Manning). Ben McAdoo however did say today when asked if Geno Smith could be the replacement for Eli Manning when he retires, " I can't see why not." Scary for Giants fans to hear, even though it's certainly not going to happen.
Smith was a very cheap backup option, an insurance policy for if an aging Eli had to miss sometime throughout the season due to minor injury. Smith is way better than Ryan Nassib, although that's not saying much, he'd actually give us some hope of being able to win a game at least. Geno Smith is what most quarterbacks are in this league, average, and unfortunately average doesn't quite cut it anymore at the quarterback position. Also, it's not like Geno Smith is a young talent waiting to bloom. He'll be 27 this season and by the time he'd be taking over for Eli, he'll be 30. Not worth it at that point, especially since you don't know what you're getting. His career numbers with the Jets aren't pretty whatsoever, 57.9 CMP%, 5,962 yards, 28 TD's, 36 interceptions, and a 72.4 QB rating in 33 games. Nothing to write home about for sure, especially nothing to tell the media about him being your team's future QB. McAdoo obviously said it because he's not going to shoot down one of his players dreams and initiative to work hard everyday. Smith has a one year deal with the Giants he can leave after this season if he wants to look for a place to potentially start at QB. Geno Smith might not be in the league when Eli Manning is retiring, so to predict he can be our future franchise QB is just plain blasphemy. Eli Manning has at least three years ahead of him, that's what his contract has left on it, and I know Eli will honor the contract. Don't even stress the haters that are going to give you shit about Ben McAdoo's comments because they mean nothing. Geno Smith will never be the starting quarterback of the New York Giants.
