By DjackYesterday's blowout loss although to a hot Packers team, was a very uncharacteristic loss for the Seattle Seahawks. A week earlier they blew out Carolina 40-7, so getting blown out a week later seemed very peculiar. Watching the secondary get scorched by Aaron Rodgers last night was a bad sign of things to come, yes Rodgers is filthy, but no that never happens against the Seahawks. The loss of Earl Thomas might be a lot bigger than we all originally thought, he hadn't missed a game in his entire career besides one a couple weeks before he broke his leg so the Seahawks aren't used to playing without their center fielder. Thomas keeps the legion of boom in check, he's the mastermind back there, his presence was missed greatly, and it showed yesterday.
I know Russell Wilson has been hurt for the most part this season, probably explains why his numbers have been pedestrian at best this season. Realistically he's had about three superior games where he's thrown the majority of his touchdowns, the rest of the time this offense has been atrocious. They look unstoppable some weeks and others they can't do damn a thing. I'll tell you right now if that trend continues like it has all season, the Seahawks aren't the serious contender we all believe them to be. Without Earl in the secondary, the legion of boom becomes average, and without Russell Wilson playing to elite standards this offense becomes average as well. The Seahawks have the NFC West wrapped up essentially, but just because they're winning the worst division in the NFC doesn't mean you should be buying into them being a serious contender come playoff time. Seahawks are in some serious shit, we'll have to wait to see if Pete Carroll can save them from this catastrophe. By DjackHow could they not fire Jeff Fisher, he's done nothing for this Rams team except consistently lose. Matter of fact, he's accomplished next to nothing in the NFL, and has somehow managed to hold a head coaching job for the last 20 years. He had some good teams in Tennessee that made him look good in his first few years in the league, but ever since coming up 1 yard short in the Super Bowl he's accomplished nothing. For some reason the Rams kept him around for 5 years, I have no idea why, they've been ranked last in every major offensive category since he's gotten here, obviously he's a defensive coach that hasn't been able to adapt to the new style of NFL offense. Fisher along with his mustache are stuck in the late 90's, the Rams did the right thing moving on from the coach who has managed to pick up the most losses in NFL history.
The only thing leaving people scratching their head is the fact they announced a two year extension just about a week ago. If he was on the fringe of being fired why give him a contract extension and pay him for sitting on his ass the next two years. Apparently the extension was given before the season, it was just announced last week which is very strange, obviously the Rams front office wasn't too happy about it getting out knowing that Fishers time was most likely up. I gotta give Fisher a tip of the cap though, 20 years as a head coach in the NFL without winning a Super Bowl is pretty darn impressive, I guess all it takes is being average to keep a job in small market franchises. As soon as he got to LA, he gets fired a few months later, welcome to the big time Jeff Fisher. Even in a distracted LA market your team was so bad that you couldn't maintain your job through the end of the season. Shows just how bad the Rams have been. As for who will be taking over as Rams head coach, it'll be John Fassell, son of Jim Fassell former Giants head coach in the late 90's early 2000's. He's obviously not going to be the top dog next year though, I'm going to go ahead and say Jon Gruden will be the next head coach of the LA Rams. Perfect job for him, a good defense, an offense with young talent that he can mold into something special with his offensive genius. That's essentially the same situation he walked into with the Bucs, look how that worked out, why not repeat that in LA. Y'all can call me a fortune teller when I totally nail this hiring. P.S. On the bright side Eric Dickerson will be attending LA Ram games again, that didn't last very long. By DjackWhat a day to bleed blue baby. Helluva win against our arch nemesis the Dallas Cowboys, more importantly we clinched our first winning season since 2012. It's been awhile since the Giants were a good football team so this feeling has become a little foreign to me. Doesn't take long to remember how good it really feels though, proving everyone wrong, and stepping up when the moment gets bigger is what the G-men are all about.
Giants looked broken, battered, and beaten going into this huge matchup. We just got exposed by Pittsburgh, JPP went down after finally getting back to 100%, and it looked like things were headed for the gutters. Next man up was key and the Giants defense rallied together on Sunday night football to win us our biggest game in over 3 years. Romeo Okwara stepped in for JPP, boy did that kid live up to the moment, he seized the opportunity, and played the game of his life. He earned defensive player of the game honors in a game dominated by defense, so clearly he was a huge factor in the win. Anyone still questioning the money we spent on the defense, don't, because they're clearly championship caliber. Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the league, we held them to 7 points, which is about 20 points below their season average, and we held them to 100 yards less than their season average. Safe to say we shut them down. Jenkins kept Dez quiet all night, the one ball he did catch Jenkins knocked out for a fumble immediately after. Dak looked pedestrian and everyone's beginning to call for Romo. It's honestly embarrassing that these Dallas fans have no loyalty towards Romo and the second Dak fucks up they call for Tony back. I'm sure Jerry Jones loves how things are unfolding right now since he's publicly stated that he wants Tony to be apart of their championship run. Forget the Cowboys though, the Giants have officially solidified that they're back to football relevancy with this win. 7-9, 6-10, and 6-10 the last three seasons were brutal, especially since we lost so many games by blowing the lead late in the 4th. Now, we're winning those games because we can finally make stops on defense. The offense might be completely out of sync and needs to make major adjustments if we want to be a legit Super Bowl contender, but we have big play Odell Beckham who can score in the blink of an eye. Giants have momentum, confidence, and a championship caliber defense, I can see us locking up the top wildcard spot with wins in the next two weeks. Also, Dallas better not get lackadaisical and lose two of three because the Giants can still snag that NFC East crown. Oh and by the way, Zeke Elliot talking all that trash on Instagram to Sterling Shepard, keep your mouth shut youngin because We Dem Boyz. By DjackOne of the more important games for determining who will win the AFC west division title was played last night, I know, not your typical Thursday night snoozer that we've all come accustom to. The Raiders have one of the top ranked offenses in the league with a ton of playmakers on that side of the ball and the Chiefs have one of the top ranked defenses in the league with a ton of playmakers on that side of the ball. So something was gonna have to give. It'd be the Raiders passing game that would do the giving, Derek Carr had the worst game of his career, in what was probably the biggest game of his career. If your going to claim to be the Kobe Bryant of football you better show up when it counts. Carr definitely didn't show up, he posted a 9.7 QBR, completed 41% of his passes, averaged 2.8 yards per attempt, ultimately he had a night to forget.
The funny thing is that if you look at the box score last night, you'd probably think the Raiders won this game. They won the turnover battle by a wide margin, Chiefs had 3, Raiders had 0, and they won the time of possession battle as well. The Chiefs took away the Raiders bread and butter though, which is the passing game, and despite clearly not being able to push the ball down the field through the air all night, Jack Del Rio continued to try all night. Carr didn't complete one pass on 15+ yards last night, that's why it was so strange that on 3rd and 1 that they'd throw a deep ball to the endzone, instead of just trying their chances with Murray up the middle. Latavius Murray was averaging almost 5 YPC, so I didn't understand the play calling at all on that play. Cost the Raiders the game and most likely the division. The Chiefs are officially a serious contender, I think everyone who tuned into the game last night could see that. Tyreke Hill is a phenom, watching him take that punt to house was one of the craziest displays of speed I've ever seen on a football field. Marquis King, the Raiders loveable punter, out kicked the punt coverage giving Hill time to pick up speed. Once Hill got to full speed it was like mosses parting the Red Sea. Except it was Hill parting the white sea with ultrasonic speed. Alex Smith had a helluva a first half. He destroyed the Raiders secondary, going 5/5 for 138 yards and 1 touchdown on throws 10+ yards down the field. Chiefs had a tough time closing the door on this game because their lack of a run game, they averaged 2.4 YPC last night. Chiefs found a way to win once again though, making them 19-3 in their last 22 games, best in the NFL, and they're also division leaders in the AFC west as well. Seems like the Chiefs just win baby. By DjackESPN did a top 5 under 25, so I've decided to one of my own since they suck ass, and can't seem to get any sort of ranking right. Yes, that's a direct shot at their NFL Power Ranking's, they're totally based of recency bias. Their top 5 under 25 ranking is also completely based of recency bias, at least they're consistent. 1. Odell Beckham WR, New York Giants Obvious that I'm going to put Odell at #1 on this list. Since coming into the league Odell has maintained a pace that he's going to break every conceivable wide receiver record if he can remain healthy. The soon to be best wide receiver of all time is the face of this very deep, highly talented, wave of young superstars ready to take over the league. ESPN also had Beckham at 1. 2. LeVeon Bell RB, Pittsburgh Steelers ESPN was completely disrespctful to the most versatile running back in the league. They had Bell at 5 and Ezekiel Elliot at 2, I almost vomitted up my lunch when I saw that. Zeke Elliot is running through holes the size of the Grand Canyon, if he wasn't putting up ridiculous numbers I'd be concerned. Obviously Zeke is a crazy good talent, but LeVeon Bell is a huge factor in the Pittsburgh machine. Not only is he the entire run game, maneuvering his way through miniscule creveces to find daylight to make something out of nothing on a regular basis, he also is a huge part of the pass game. He lines up in the slot, can go out wide, and catch out of the backfield. He's the complete package, he's a yard from scrimmage machine, and he should be respected as such. Give the second coming of Barry Sanders some respect, LeVeon is clearly the 2nd best player under 25. 3. David Johnson RB, Arizona Cardinals David Johnson wasn't even on the list, which is an utter abomination. The Cardinals may be horrible this year, but if weren't for this man being basically their entire offense they'd be a whole lot worse. Everyone's ready to crown Zeke the king of the running backs when there's guys doing just as much with a lot less talent surrounding them. David Johnson has single handidly carried many fantasy teams to the playoffs with his regular 30 point performances. You can't get good fantasy numbers without putting up ridiculous numbers on the field. 4. Dak Prescott QB, Dallas Cowboys The hardest position to play in the NFL and he's executing his gameplans to perfection week in and week out. Kills me on the inside to say nice things about Dak, but it's impossible not to, the kid is very good. Everyone says Zeke Elliot should win MVP, he's not even the most valuable player on his team, Dak Prescott runs the entire offense, it's clearly him. A rookie quarterback that makes almost no mistakes, completes the throws you ask of him, and does the little things to help the team win is unheard of. Dak is a special talent and is most certainly more important to Dallas than Zeke. 5. Ezekiel Elliot RB, Dallas Cowboys While I don't think he will, Zeke may very well break the rookie rushing record. Sure Zeke has had the luxury of the best offensive line in football and I basically penalize his numbers because of it, as I should, but he is a superb talent. He's younger than the 2 backs ahead of him on this list so he may end up surpassing them in the future, for now though he's just a step below them. Sure he's fast, can jump higher than most olympic hurdlers, and can run through brick walls, but I need to see a little more from him before I put him ahead of guys that basically carry their team's offense. By DjackI'm just going to go ahead and state the obvious here, this is BAD news for the Giants. Just when JPP returns to his superstar form after battling the loss half his hand for the last year and a half, now he gets a groin injury that puts him out for the rest of the season. Fucking FANTASTIC. The one thing the Giants couldn't afford to happen right now was have a key defensive player get hurt, of course that's exactly what happens. Our defense has carried us to this 8-4 start, if the offense wasn't more inconsistent than Roger Goodell's Discipline policy, we'd probably be playing Dallas for the division lead this weekend. Our pass rush was finally coming around the last 4 games, JPP was especially coming on in the last two, and than to add insult to injury JPP has to go down in an awful loss to Pittsburgh.
It's over. Not the season, the fact that JPP won't suit up for the rest of the season, so it's time for the next man to step up. Obviously no one person can replace what JPP does on the field, he's a special player, it'd be impossible. Kerry Wynn, Romeo Okwara, and possibly Owa Odighizuwa if he's healthy, will be rotating to fill the void at the left end position. Those guys are backups for a reason, they'll have somewhat of an impact, but no where near what JPP does for us against every down. The other key defensive players on the team, along with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnoulo, are going to have to elevate their performances to a new level in order to make up for what they're missing with JPP done for the year. That's what next man up is all about. Player goes down, someone fills the void, and every individual steps up, and as a unit you play good team defense. That's what the G-men have to do from here on out or we're going to miss the playoffs, that's the reality of the situation. Let's see how they respond against Dallas, this game was already of the upmost importance, it just became even more meaningful. By Djack
12/5/2016 Giants Show Serious Room for Improvement After an Embarrassing Loss to PittsburghRead NowBy DjackThere wasn't one point in yesterday's game where I didn't feel sick to my stomach, from the opening kickoff to the final snap the Giants looked horrendous. The defense played good enough to win, they're the reason we didn't lose 35-7, but the offense, my god they're unbearable to watch, and completely flushed this game down the toilet for us. I'm so tired of seeing three and out drives that last 90 seconds, every week I say to myself this is the week they'll break out, and it never happens. Ever now again we will see flashes of what the offense can do when we find a nice rhythm, which is almost never. We've become a big play offense, if we don't have big plays on offense we just simply don't score, we can't put together methodical drives, we're lucky to pick up 10 first downs in a game, it's absolutely pathetic. The thing I don't understand is how do we go from being a top ten offense last year, to whatever you want to call this dreadful display on the offensive side of the ball from the Giants. We added several playmakers, how the fuck did we get worse. I don't want to say it, I never want to say it, but Eli needs to step the fuck up man. Two interceptions deep in Steelers territory yesterday and he threw a ball into good coverage to Will Tye on fourth down that he should've thrown to Perkins who was wide open in the flats. Seems like Eli doesn't have any faith in his O-line even though they seem to give him ample time most downs, he seems to not look to his third and fourth read as much as he should, and he still makes decisions that lead to interceptions that leave you scratching your head. Eli has been very inconsistent throughout the season, some balls he throws you don't even know who the intended receiver is they're thrown so wildly, and then the next play will be a perfect throw that few QB's can make. Eli is truly an anomaly.
As for Pittsburgh, I wouldn't be too thrilled with this win. Steelers had 11 penalties for 125 yards, Tomlin continues to go for two despite it never working, and the undisciplined Steelers couldn't put away a Giants' team until late in the fourth that literally couldn't have played worse. Steelers defense is not good despite the Giants making them look like they were. The Steelers secondary was also getting away with pass interference on Odell the entire game, every replay I saw the Steelers defender was holding his arm or hand down, he didn't get one call until the very end when it didn't matter anymore. Can't blame the refs though, even if they are blind, and essentially useless. Giants offense simply has to play better if we want to beat above average teams. We were able to get by with just our good defense over the course of the 6 game winning streak because we weren't necessarily playing good football teams, but that's gonna have to change because all the gimme games are in the past. All we need to do is win two of our last four and we'll be in the playoffs, so hopefully this was just a really rough week, and all will be better next week when we kick the Dallas Cowboys ass. By UppyDid the Eagles play yesterday? I didn't notice. Seriously I actually didn't get a chance to watch the game yesterday but from the few clips I've seen, I couldn't be happier to have had to miss the game. In the words of my brother, Wentz looked like he had "more swag than usual" and apparently Nelson Agholor actually caught a pass, which is a good sign, but other than the bright hope that is Carson Wentz, I am officially throwing in the towel on the 2016 Philadelphia Eagles season. At 5-7, coming off an EMBARRASSING attempt in Cincinatti, while being in a division that has the Cowboys at 11-1 and the fucking Giants at 8-4, the playoffs are a statistical improbabaility. So what have we learned from our Sixers pals across the street in the Wells Fargo Center? Why don't we ask our good friend Joel Embiid what he thinks?
Trust the Process. That's right, it's tanking season! Oh wait, what's that? Oh we traded all our draft picks for the foreseeable future? Oh yeah that sucks. But wait! You must've forgot! That snake-eyed fuck Howie Roseman actually made a good move right in the nick of time this year. Remember that Sam Bradford guy? I know it feels like his time on the Birds has just kind of been forgotten (trust me we're all trying to wipe our memories of the Chip Kelly era) but he was traded to the Vikings for a first round pick somehow. SOOOO what does this mean for Eagles fans??? FUCK THE VIKINGS BABY!! I am cheering for every team that plays against the Vikings for the rest of the season to help our draft pick climb the ranks this year. If we want to actually end the torment of our Super Bowl drought, we need to do well in the draft. So let's help the Vikings tank, give us their pick, and watch us draft a stud to block for Wentz while he throws to Desean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery next year. Doesn't that sound nice :) |
