By DjackGreat day for Los Angeles basketball, the LA Sparks won the WNBA championship last night against the Minnesota Lynx. The Lynx were the clear cut favorite coming into this game 5 winner take all situation at home, the Lynx were looking to win their 4th title in 6 years, and the Sparks had just come off a crushing defeat in game 4. After that heartbreaking game four loss in which these girls looked absolutely devastated, Magic Johnson came into the locker room to give the ladies of purple and gold a pep talk, telling them that they can still win this thing, and cement a legacy forever. Looks like they listened, they played with so much heart and determination that they willed themselves to victory tonight. The Lynx were clearly the more talented team, they have Maya Moore for crying out loud, for those of you that don't know, Maya Moore is like the Lebron James of the WNBA, expect she's more dominant. Candace Parker, a legend in her own right was not going to back down to the new face of the WNBA, Parker was once the face of this league before Moore came around to snatch her crown. Parker has been one of the more transcendent basketball players in the history of the WNBA due to her athletic ability, she's an absolute beast. She played like a beast last night, racking up 26 points and 12 rebounds on the way to her first WNBA championship. She finally got the monkey off her back after 9 seasons, she wins the WNBA title, and all of her teammates couldn't have been happier for her knowing that this was a truly special moment for her. Parker after the game dedicated the win to her former college coach, Pat Summit, who died early this year. Summit was the greatest women's basketball coach ever along with the biggest advocate for the game ever. Basically women's basketball wouldn't be anything without Pat Summit. Parker was very emotional, she deserved this title more than anyone, I love this girl, and I'm super psyched she brought a championship back to LA for the first time in almost 15 years. Also, quick shoutout to Nneka Ogwumike, she was the one that hit the game winning shot with 3.4 seconds left on the clock. She was the reason this team was able to take that next step this year, Candace Parker is obviously the face of the franchise, but this girl can ball out. She won the MVP in the regular season, just goes to show you how good the Sparks are now with two superstars on the roster. Candace Parker would win the finals MVP award, it was much deserved, and I don''t think anyone would've wanted it any other way. Hopefully the Lakers can take notes from what the Sparks did and apply it to their team so we can get a championship soon. For those of you that say the WNBA is trash, watch the final two minutes of this game and tell me that isn't some of the most exciting two minutes of basketball you've ever seen, if you do, I'll just simply say you don't know entertainment. There's just so much drama, now I'm not going to sit her and act like I'm an avid fan, but watching the fourth quarter of that game last night really changed my opinion on Women's basketball. WNBA is lowkey fire, got some serious star power coming up in that league. Once again, just want to say congratulations to the LA Sparks, let's build off this, and start creating a dynasty.

By DjackHasheem Thabeet is a name most of you no longer even recognize. He was once a number two overall pick in the NBA draft though, a 7'3" giant out of UConn that many thought would be the next great big man. Ultimately, he sucked, and would be out of the league in just a few short years. People surrounding him called him lazy, said he wasn't in love with the game with basketball, and questioned his dedication to his craft. Thabeet is looking to make a comeback after spending the last two years out of the NBA, he say's he's been training really hard and that making it back to the NBA is his #1 goal. This sounds a whole lot like a Greg Oden/Robert Swift comeback story, you got all these guys who think they can come back, and the end result is always the same, they're the same basketball player they were to begin with, and nothing has changed. I don't even know why these guys hype up their return, they're ultimately just setting themselves up for failure because no one reads the story and actually thinks Thabeet is going to make a comeback, and be the star player he was supposed to be coming out of college. With that being said, I don't even think Thabeet is delusional enough to think he could be that player, I think he's just looking to make a roster, pick up a couple paychecks, and leave the NBA with a sense of dignity. I'd love to see Thabeet play in the NBA again, I know he wouldn't be getting more than five minutes a game at max because he would be a detriment to the to the team success, but I'd like to see him pick up this consolation prize. Why not root for the underdog right, I mean this guy has had it rough enough, imagine being the number two overall pick and just being absolutely terrible, never showing an ounce of promise, that's got to be tough on the guy, I don't care how much money he made along the way. I hope Thabeet accomplishes his dream, I doubt it will actually happen, but maybe just maybe he sneaks his way onto a roster, maybe has a decent game here and there, and BAM, a dumb organization like the Lakers will give him a huge payday like they did with Movgov, that's today's NBA for ya. It's a league with a lot of money so he's got the right idea trying to come back, gotta respect his hustle.
By BobThe NBA season has yet to even begin and already we have some trade rumors. This is too classic, it seems like everybody is dispensable nowadays, even guys with all-star ceilings who were signed a year ago. This weeks rumor mill prospect is big man LaMarcus Aldridge of the San Antonio Spurs. After dipping Portland last summer, the entire league considered LA and Kawhi to be the future of this franchise but already that ship may have sailed. Apparently if Aldridge does not live up to his contract, the Spurs have no problem sending the big man packing. I personally was shocked to hear about this, I am a huge LaMarcus Aldridge guy. He is big, physical and knows how to score the rock from almost anywhere. Not to mention his first season with the Spurs may not have made him an all-star but averaging 18.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and shooting 51% is still beast. Although I can see where the front office is coming from. The big guy is 31 years old and probably only has two years of prime left in him at most, so why not sell high on him while they have a chance. With Kawhi proving last season he can carry both the offense and defense, it could actually work in San Antonios favor to trade him. I am very curious to how this will all play out, most likely it is all just rumors but this could end up being a league shifting trade if it actually happens.
By MukThe Bulls have officially acquired Michael Carter-Williams through a trade with the Bucks, for Tony Snell. This trade benefits both teams, but the Bucks to me are the bigger winner as they now filled more help at the Shooting-Guard position that needs help after Khris Middleton went down. Carter-Williams will likely serve as Rando's backup in Chicago, and the Bulls will now have to dump one of their backup Point-Guards to make room on the roster, with 5 current PG's on the roster.
Carter-Williams has showed flashes of greatness, winning the 2013-2014 Rookie of the Year in Philly, but has struggled since and his shooting has been subpar, so he will need to improve on that to find his way into the lineup more often, but his length gives him the ability to be a strong defender off the bench for the Bulls. By BobThe NBA season is only a few weeks out, and the notorious J.R Smith still does not have a home for next season. Most people assume the Cavs owners will cave in and pay the sharpshooter, but according The New York Daily News' Frank Isola reported "that the Boston Celtics are among several teams interested in Smith". I would find it highly doubtful that Smith leaves the Land that brought him his first championship and helped him redeem his career. The boys on the Cavaliers (Lebron particularly) love Smith, they consider the guy family.Although it is interesting to think about Smith actually departing for a new home, one where he can have some more spotlight. He may be a major clog in Clevelands offense, but it does not take a scientist to figure out he is the fourth or fifth option. J.R Smith is known for loving being the center of attention, so it would not be the biggest shocker to see him jump towns real quick. Boston really would be the perfect spot for him, and if he were to join forces with the Celts it would give them the shooter they need to compete with the Cavs for the East. A roster boasting Isiah Thomas, Al Hordford, J.R Smith and a bunch of above average players could easily win 55+ games, no questions asked. This thought is more of a dream for you Boston fans though, as I do not think Smith is leaving Cleveland anytime soon. He was spotted actually rooting for the Indians in game two of the ALDS against the Red Sox with Lebron and the boys, so I think that is some foreshadowing. I cannot blame Smith if he resigns, because the Cavs are going to be the only team that can take down the losers in Oracle Arena.
