By DjackIn a series in which the Mets should've walked away with at least two wins, they walk away with none. The Braves came into Citi Field and swept the first place wildcard Mets with little to no problem. The Mets are playing the weakest schedule out of any MLB team trying to get into the playoffs, they're basically getting handed a wildcard spot , and they still can't capitalize by beating up on the weak teams in the league. The Braves smoked Thor in the first game of the series for 5 earned runs, they cruised to an easy victory, and all Mets fans were distraught after their last man standing from last years young pitching core seemed to be struggling himself. I'm sure it was just a bad start, every pitcher has them, but it's something to keep an eye on. The Mets in the second game of this series tried to mount a comeback in the 8th, but came up just short falling one run shy of tying it, falling to the Braves once again. Julio Tehran pitched for the Braves and he kept the Mets lineup in check, he's been one of the only good consistent starters for the Braves this season. Last night was the must see game, the Mets were tied late in a game they needed to win. They needed their big star Yoenis Cespedes to step up, and he did just that. In the 8th inning with the game tied, Cespedes hit a deep fly to left field, it for sure looked like it was going to be a home run, Matt Kemp had other ideas as he jumped up to rob it, he missed, but the ball stayed in play. Cespedes was not hustling on the play so he only got a double, it should've easily been a triple which would've gave the Mets a sacrifice opportunity, but his lack of hustle cost the team. The Braves walked the next batter Granderson, then Cespedes and Granderson pulled off a double steal to put two runners in scoring position with one out. Well, the next two batters struck out, not a huge deal because the game was still tied right, wrong the Braves would take the lead in the top of the 9th. How did they score this run, well Jeurys Familia, and his lack of ability to keep runners off base backfired, and the Braves were able to scrape together a run. The Mets came up in the bottom of the 9th, they needed a walk off win, not just to avoid the sweep, but to give them the proper motivation to close out this regular season. The opportunity presented itself with two runners on, two outs, and Cespedes at the plate. Cespedes crushed a ball, it's clearly got the distance, all the Mets fans are ready to go nuts, the Mets are all ready to party themselves, and then Ender Inciarte leaps up and makes one of the greatest catches I've ever seen as he robs Yoenis Cespedes of a walkoff homerun to end the game. Will this be the dagger in the Mets season, this is where we see what this team is really made of, back against the wall after a bone crushing loss, how will they respond. The Mets are in a three way tie for the wildcard, but they have the easiest schedule going forward. They need to forget about this series, start with a clean slate, and find a way into these playoffs, I feel too bad for Mets fans to not see their team at least make the playoffs. Let's Go Mets.
