By DjackWith no warning whatsoever the Yankees placed Greg Bird on the 10-day DL today. They say it's due to a right ankle bruise, even though he looked fine yesterday when he was playing. Well, fine health wise at least, Greg Bird hasn't looked fine at the plate at all this season. After putting up huge numbers in spring training, Bird has failed to carry over his success over to the big league level. What seemed to just be an early slump turned into awful at bat after awful at bat. It got to the point Greg Bird looked completely lost at the plate, no confidence whatsoever. Yankees had no choice but to place Greg Bird on the DL, although it has nothing to do with an injury.
Greg Bird, was becoming a complete liability in the Yankee lineup. Bird kept coming up in big spots and producing absolutely nothing, when there's a bench full of guys dying for at bats, failing to produce will land you outside the lineup quickly. Bird's awful start was also taking a toll on his confidence. When a young hitter just can't seem to break out of a slump they begin to think the obvious, I suck. If you think you suck as a baseball player, then you're definitley going to suck, so Yankees are trying to avoid that, especially with the brutal NY media lurking. Yankees decided to just throw Bird on the DL to give him a break, help him get his mind right, and now he'll probably get some rehab starts in the minors to help him find his stroke again. Once Bird gets going and starts doing what he's capable of it'll just add another force to an already great Yankees lineup. Hope this desperation move works for the Yankees and Greg Bird, the last blog I want to write is the Bird is a bust blog. |
